The handoff is where most products die.
Design finishes, the files go over the wall, and three weeks later what's on staging isn't what was approved. Nobody lied — the developer hit a case the design didn't cover, made a reasonable call, and moved on. Multiply that by two hundred decisions and you have a product that works but doesn't feel like the one you signed off on.
Running two vendors makes it worse, because now there's a seam to manage and two people who can each point at the other.
We don't hand off. Design and engineering sit in the same team, in the same weekly cycle, so edge cases get resolved once — by the two people who both own the outcome — instead of being discovered twice.
