Visual Design Manager

Job Summary:  

The Office of the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) provides operations support services & business solutions to the community of 10,000 House Members, Officers & staff. The CAO organization comprises more than 650 technical & administrative staff working in a variety of areas, including information technology, finance, budget management, human resources, payroll, childcare, food & vending, procurement, logistics & administrative counsel.

The CAO is looking for an experienced, dynamic Visual Designer Manager. As the Visual Design Manager, you will not only lead the graphic design team, providing guidance and feedback on a wide-array of visual design projects, but will play a central role in raising awareness about the CAO's initiatives and services for House Members, staff, and visitors to the U.S. House of Representatives. Reporting directly to the Director of Communications and Marketing, you will work collaboratively with the Director and stakeholders throughout the CAO organization to lead on high-priority visual design projects and recommend new creative approaches.

From marketing the latest campus food pop-up to letting House staff know about new fitness classes at the House Staff Fitness Center and more, every day is an opportunity to flex your creative muscle and work on new projects. The position has day-to-day supervisory/managerial responsibilities.

Primary Duties/Responsibilities:

•         Oversee the graphic design team

•         Manage the CAO’s visual identity and brand guidelines across departments to ensure all communications and marketing materials are cohesive and aligned with the CAO’s brand initiatives and priorities

•         Oversee daily team assignments and leads high-profile or complex print and digital projects; ensuring design standards are met and project requirements are fulfilled through quality assurance checks

•         Manage graphic design team, collaborating to create graphic design and multimedia components in support of the CAO’s communications efforts, including marketing materials to House Members and staff, internal and external reports, and other materials to increase awareness of CAO policies, procedures, and services

•         Maintain a shared Microsoft SharePoint library of the CAO’s marketing materials

•         Manage the CAO’s digital monitors across the House campus, utilizing them when appropriate in support of communications campaigns.

•         Provide consultative multimedia services to internal departments regarding communication projects, interpret design needs into cohesive graphic design ideas and information, and provide recommendations in the visual design process

•         Initiate and direct client meetings to better define customer goals, suggest enhancements to initial customer requests to create efficiencies, and maximize impact and budget.

•         Obtains and maintains high-level knowledge base of the CAO and CAO Communications service offerings; serves as an escalation point for complex requests

•         Performs other official duties and special projects as assigned.

Qualifications:

·       BS/BA degree in Graphic Design, Communications, Advertising, Marketing; or equivalent combination of education & experience

·       Minimum 6+ years of experience in a graphic design and/or marketing/communications role

·       Experience leading a team, either directly or through matrix management. Strong project management, customer relations, and time management skills with the ability to work well under pressure while juggling multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.

·       Expert-level knowledge of design principles and a strong understanding of branding standards.

·       Proven ability to develop and implement effective marketing and advertising multimedia.

·       Must have solid understanding of current design trends – both digital and print. Experience with maintaining a shared library of digital assets in Microsoft SharePoint.

·       Outstanding communications skills, both verbal & written; must have demonstrated proficiency in creating engaging multimedia communications.

·       Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud, including Photoshop and InDesign.
