EquipmentShare is searching for a product designer to help us build the future of construction with incredible people-first product design.

EquipmentShare is dedicated to creating a connected jobsite for the modern contractor. We deliver technology-driven solutions for construction industry professionals, and we provide a better equipment rental experience, equipment tracking software and hardware security solutions to help contractors work smarter.

In 2018, EquipmentShare opened nine construction yards, expanded into 15 new markets across the nation and welcomed more than 200 new employees to better serve contractors across the nation. Our team is solving the age-old problems of the construction industry, which is, by the way, an industry with an estimated value of $12.7 trillion come 2020.

As we continue to scale our product offerings, services and markets, we need a product designer who can help us take customer pain points and turn them into engaging, remarkable and user-centric design solutions.

So, What is EquipmentShare?

While running their construction companies, brothers Willy and Jabbok Schlacks were frustrated with the options they had for renting equipment. Contractors didn’t have good choices when it came to renting and owning equipment.

With more than 40 years of combined construction experience, they decided it was time to do things differently and build something, for once, for contractors. The brothers originally founded EquipmentShare as a peer-to-peer rental platform at Startup Weekend in Columbia, Missouri, in 2014 and proceeded to catapult their vision to market when they applied and were accepted into Y Combinator’s accelerator program in Mountain View, California, in 2015.

In just four years, EquipmentShare has evolved greatly as a business and expanded across the U.S. with our brick-and-mortar rental locations and we’ve captured customers in nearly every state with our cloud-connected telematics platform Track. EquipmentShare today continues the mission of fostering innovation in the dated construction industry.

Your Opportunity to Grow With Us

We’re excited to expand our design team and are looking for a designer who is just as enthusiastic about joining a growing team and making a difference in the way we deliver our products to our customers. We’re looking for an intuitive, empathetic and motivated individual who keenly understands what turns a so-so product experience into a memorable and resonating one.

Responsibilities:

Work cross-functionally with product and dev teams to define and refine product design strategy
Actively collaborate and conceptualize with Senior Product Designer and design team to contribute to the overall design system
Create practical, beautiful and customer-delighting solutions to design challenges
Thoughtfully perform user research to gather customer feedback on product experience
You should feel at home while working with short feedback loops and iterating often based on feedback.
Our ideal candidate will be able to confidently put together prototypes on multiple fidelities and take a napkin sketch all the way to a pixel-perfect product mockup.
Operate autonomously and always push yourself to create the best user experience
Produce multiple concepts and prototypes for our various products as we expand, grow and scale

What You’re Working With:

Solid experience in defining and planning product strategy with a PDF or online portfolio to back this up. Applicants who don’t provide a portfolio are unlikely to be considered.
Excellent communication skills. You’ll work with remote teammates and must be able to communicate clearly, empathetically and thoughtfully with them about design ideas, concepts and projects.
A love for the details and a desire to polish your work to perfection
A degree in HCI and/or 3 years of design experience is preferred.
Deep understanding of practical design concepts (white space, balance, etc.)
A passion for creating products that are easy and enjoyable for customers to navigate
A penchant for solving problems and improving your own skills (good is never good enough)
A positive, go-with-the-flow demeanor and willingness to evolve and learn as EquipmentShare grows
