  • Course Prep Week
    Introductions & Set-Up

Prep week is all about setting yourself up for success! Using guided tutorials, you will set up all the accounts you need, including Dribbble Pro and Figma. During this week you will meet your mentor and get to know your classmates in your exclusive course Slack group.

You will be introduced to what Product Design is, what it isn't, what Product Designers do, and why it's valuable to all companies. You will learn how to define a problem and work through the seven stages of the product design process, a foundational concept for success!

  • Week 1
    UX Fundamentals

Great designers know impressive products start with the end-user in mind. The first step towards creating your product is understanding and identifying who will use it. You will receive your first brief this week, focused on design decisions.

Here you will learn to define fundamental problems you're trying to solve. This includes user research, interviewing identified users, applying design thinking techniques to test assumptions, analyzing and synthesizing the results, and establishing insights that will impact your work.

  • Week 2
    User Flows & Figma Basics

You will learn the basics of Figma during week two and use it to develop a user flow diagram to visualize your user's journey. Knowing the best practices for creating a user flow helps you become confident with its different components.

A user flow is a way to convey your designs to engineers and important decision-makers from the user's perspective. You can plan for and create user-friendly products through user flows from the very beginning. If you have a problem with your product, a clearly defined UX flow often helps you troubleshoot and find the problem.

  • Week 3
    Wireframing & FigJam

In week two, the question was: how will the user get from point A to point B? In week three, the Wireframing phase, we will determine what is actually on each screen that will assist us in achieving that overarching goal. The skill of wireframing is an essential one that has a massive impact on the final design of your product.

You can test ideas and get feedback on your designs without investing too much time. This week, you will continue to use Figma (the number one tool used by designers) to create wireframes, and you'll jump into FigJam to ideate and iterate your designs alongside your mentor.

  • Week 4 & 5
Visual Design, Hierarchy, Color & Typography

In these weeks, you will learn visual design fundamentals and UI design aspects like grids, navigation, typographic scales, and product design patterns. You will learn some of the foundations of visual design, so you can start dressing the skeleton applications you have built to bring out their style.

You will learn and develop essential design skills through practice and experimentation, including balance, proximity, alignment, visual hierarchy, repetition, contrast, color, and typography. Your eye for design aesthetics will be sharpened as you practice these visual design skills. Your confidence as a designer will grow as you practice these skills.

  • Week 6 & 7
Scaling Design, Components & Design Systems

Throughout weeks six and seven, you will set up reusable design components, responsive layouts, pattern libraries and learn the basics of design systems within Figma. Tools like Figma make it easier for designers to work more modularly since product design is iterative.

As a result, we will be discussing how we can make our designs more scalable by using modern design tools and techniques. You will future-proof your designs when scaling them to multiple screens and different layouts. You will learn to use components, scalable systems, responsive UI cards, pattern libraries, and design systems.

  • Week 8
    Prototyping & Testing

Week eight will be a fun one, as you'll be putting your static wireframes into practice. Your designs will be brought to life with high-fidelity prototypes. We will cover transitions, animations, and micro-interactions so you can build robust prototypes.

A huge part of product design is creating a testable prototype that we can get user feedback on before we spend the time building the actual product. The job of a product designer is to get as close to the real thing as possible, so the stakeholders don’t have to imagine anything or take risks.

  • Week 9
    Handoff & Documentation

This week, you will prepare your designs to be handed over to the development team by creating documentation and design specifications. After testing your product, you will learn how to preview your work, share and present your work, run Inspect mode, redline, and document your work using industry-standard practices.

Communication, documentation, and handover play a big part in the quality of your designs. Taking this step will ensure your vision for development is not lost.

  • 10, 11, 12 & 13
    Capstone Projects

Throughout these practical weeks, you will get briefs and receive feedback and advice from your expert mentor on your projects. As part of your live mentor sessions each week, you'll discuss pain points and ideas, plus you'll receive asynchronous feedback on your designs.

This is your chance to put everything you have learned into practice by creating three capstone projects that you can include in a portfolio that is interview-ready. The briefs you receive will help you practice user journeys, diagrams, wireframes, and high-fidelity designs for prototypes of your products.

  • Week 14 & 15
    Portfolio & Landing a Job

Now that you have the skills to be a product designer, what's next? By the end of these weeks, you will be ready for the next part of your journey, where you will create your portfolio, resume and prepare for interviews to land your first product design position. Portfolios and resume templates will be provided, along with instructions on preparing for design interviews.

The week will be capped off with a live Q&A with an ex-Google hiring manager, Jessica Ko, who will provide insight into what employers are looking for in designers and how to stand out in your portfolio.

  • Week 16
    Dribbble Graduation!

We address your final week of the Dribbble Product Design course with great pleasure. You will receive a certificate and badge to display on your Dribbble and LinkedIn profiles in celebration of your newfound product design skills.

You'll present one of your final projects to your classmates at this last live session and become a member of the Dribbble alumni group! Upon graduation, we will circulate your portfolio to our vast network of active hiring managers from some of the top design firms in the world!
