Trubbasound Outernational Branding Project

This was a personal project to design the branding for an imaginary record label - Trubbasound Outernational. I have fantasized about running my own record label for many years and this was a way for me to scratch an itch and visualize an idea. For context - I imagine the record label to be a small independent company that reissues or publishes previously unreleased and rare music on vinyl from under-represented places around the world - like Sublime Frequencies, Soul Jazz, or Far Out Records . I wanted the branding for the record label to be 'hip' and appealing to music nerds, but still quite cold and neutral. I didn't want to go down the usual 30s/40s/50s vintage record label styling but instead wanted to create a twist on the clean and corporate look of labels like Philadelphia International or Atlantic in the 60s/70s. The logo mark design itself represents the T and O initials of the company name as a vinyl record being played on a record player. I like to imagine the logo being used on boxes of records so I created a few textured mockups to see what it would look like after being battered by couriers, or if a bunch of records were left to be discovered years late by someone digging around in a mouldy basement somewhere.
