2018 Video Upload, Now on Dribbble Year In Review

More Designers Than Ever Before Are Using Dribbble

2018 was an amazing year—our best year yet! Our mission at Dribbble is to build the best platform in the world for designers to gain inspiration, exposure, feedback, community, and job opportunities. In 2018 alone, our community size nearly doubled! This has led to 40% more job postings and 80% more sent work inquiries that reached 50% more designers than in 2017.

We’re growing so quickly that we even made the Inc. 5,000 list of the fastest-growing private companies in America. This achievement puts Dribbble in rarefied company with the likes of Microsoft, Dell, Pandora, Timberland, LinkedIn, Yelp, and Zillow.

Dribbble has had a tremendous impact on my career by exposing me to so many amazingly talented designers. It’s given me a ton of role models and I feel lucky enough to say that they’re my peers now and even some my really good friends.

Over 4 Trillion Pixels

In 2018, designers uploaded over 1.2M Shots and the community responded with over 35M likes and 1M comments! In March, we hit a huge milestone: one trillion pixels Dribbbled. It took us 9 years to hit that milestone, but by November, we’d already hit two trillion, and by December we hit three trillion! Those pixels are being put to good use in our new larger upload limit and a brand new shot layout that puts your work front and center.

Over the years, Dribbblers have shared over 3.6M Shots. Here’s a look back at some of the most popular shots from each year.

Video Comes to Dribbble

Motion design has been an integral part of the Dribbble community for sharing everything from user interface designs to animated character designs. Our community has been asking for video support for a long time now and in November, we were able to make video shots a reality. Pros and Teams can now upload video shots to share with the entire community.

Officially Android-Friendly

No matter what device you squeeze into your back pocket, you can now take Dribbble with you everywhere you go. In 2017, we launched our official Dribbble iOS app and in 2018, we made it a priority to launch our official Android app. In 2019, we’ll continue to make big improvements to both of our apps. Look out for a major redesign of the iOS app soon!

Upload Shots From Your Favorite Design App

Designers love design tools—it’s a fact. In 2018, we’ve made it easier to get your design work uploaded on Dribbble with new app integrations. Dribbblers can now upload shots right inside Sketch, Figma, and Adobe XD, and an Invision Studio integration is on the way.

Get Started…

That’s not all…

Our team worked really hard in 2018 to launch a ton of other new features including a more powerful skill search, updates to our onboarding flow, improved tagging for Shots, custom job listings, a new about page featuring our community’s work, and a super fun, interactive 404 page, and so much more.

Season 3 of Overtime is a Wrap!

In 2018, we released our third season of the Overtime podcast. We spoke to some of the best and brightest in the design industry and published 22 episodes. We have to say, we think this is our best season yet. Our host and co-founder of Dribbble, Dan Cederholm interviewed some design legends and personal heroes including Paula Scher, Debbie Millman, and Joshua Davis.

New to Overtime? Subscribe on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you get your podcasts. Catch up on past episodes and get ready for the new season starting January 15th.

Dribbble’s Global Community, IRL

Year after year, Dribbble Meetups have been growing in number and scale. In 2018, we saw 144 meetups in 43 countries, with over 8,000 designers in attendance!

A New Meetup Kit

With our amazing hosts continually stepping up their game, we decided that we’d better keep up. That’s why we redesigned the Dribbble Meetup Kit from the ground up this year.

The new Dribbble Meetup Kit includes more supplies, a guide for making your event something special, and a special gift just for the host with the most.

One of my goals is to continue to grow tighter knit relationships and be an ambassador of making creative collisions in our community more accessible.

One of my favorite things about getting together with other designers is talking shop and improving process. Getting tips about how to better our team by learning the ins and outs of other agencies or shops.

Hangtime

Double the Hang Time Double the Fun

After Hang Time Boston’s success in 2017, we planned two more events in 2018. Designers from around the country joined us at Hang Time Seattle in May and Hang Time Los Angeles in December.

Over 750 designers attended Hang Time events in 2018 to connect and learn from an all-star speaker selection including Aaron Draplin, Khoi Vinh, Paula Scher, Dina Rodriguez, Pablo Stanley, Meg Lewis, and many more. There were also incredible workshops and after party events to talk shop with other designers, grab some merch, screen print your own shirts, and more.

Hang Time is coming to NYC and San Francisco in 2019, so stay tuned for updates!

Team Dribbble

In 2017, we grew from a group of eight to a twenty-four-person, fully distributed team. In 2018 we almost doubled our headcount. Dribbble is now a forty-seven person team working entirely remotely.

Last year, we shared what we’ve learned about scaling a fully distributed team along with how we do remote team building. We’re always on the lookout for great people, so keep an eye out for opportunities to join our team.

Friends and Supporters

Some of the greatest design-centric companies in the world like InVision, Thumbtack, Mural, Nike, Adobe, Google, Microsoft, MyFonts, FullStory, Flow, Wix, and many more have supported Dribbble this year. We also…

partner image 1 Continued our partnership with Stride Health to help designers get the access to health insurance they need.
partner image 2 Partnered closely with Epicurrence to support intimate events that provide designers with lasting, meaningful connections.
partner image 3 Teamed up with our friends at Unsplash to recognize the generous photography community during the Unsplash Awards.
partner image 4 Partnered with Baron Fig to design a limited edition Show & Tell Confidant Notebook for our community.

The 100k Club

The Dribbble community endlessly inspires us. In 2018, we wanted to reward some of our top community members on their achievements. We inducted 100+ Players into the 100k club—a group of Dribbblers that have received 100k likes. These designers received a limited-edition crystal trophy to mark the occasion.
