Tonight, David Ortiz will begin the final regular-season series of his long and illustrious career as the Boston Red Sox take on the Toronto Blue Jays at Fenway Park. Ortiz (perhaps even more well-known as “Big Papi”) joined the Red Sox in 2003 after being released by the Minnesota Twins. Since then, he has hit 482 (of his 540 total) home runs and—most importantly—won three World Series championships for the Red Sox (in 2004, 2007, and 2013).
However, these won’t be the last games Ortiz ever plays for the Red Sox. Thanks to his incredible season, the Red Sox have won their division and will compete in the postseason to try to win Ortiz a fourth World Series ring.
