Austin hosts Dribbble Meetup No. 25 (!!) on Thursday at Lewis Carnegie in conjunction with the Afterhours Poster Show. Live in Austin? RSVP. Clearhead is covering the drinks, Funsize is preparing a celebratory thank you, and the poster show is raising money for the Capital Area Food Bank.

Don’t live in Austin? Take a tour with meetup organizer Sophie Shepherd.

What do you love about Austin?

The weather is great almost all time (and when it’s too hot there’s icy Barton Springs to jump in to). The food is amazing wherever you go—whether you want a taco from a gas station or a 12-course tasting menu. You’re always within a block or two of a patio to have a cold local beer on. Town Lake has 10 miles of running trails, and there’s a greenbelt for hiking all through the city. You can see any genre of music live, on any night of the week. The people are the perfect mix of interesting and friendly. When I travel and tell people I’m from Austin, their response is always “I’ve heard Austin is great!” I could go on for hours.

Tell us where you work.

I am lucky enough to work remotely from home, which is in South Austin. I love taking breaks to make big lunches or tend to my garden.

What is the Austin design scene like?

The Austin design scene is the perfect mix of close-knit and welcoming. I’ve met some of my best friends in the community, and I’d guess that almost everyone else could say the same thing. At every Dribbble meetup I make an effort to catch up with old friends and to meet some new people. There’s always a mix of both!

Choose three shots from three Austin designers you admire, and let us know why you chose the shots/designers.

Q is for Queso by Lin Zagorski, above left.

If this bowl of queso was a hot tub would you get in? I would.

ATX by Katherine Rainey for IBM Innovation Lab, above center.

The cute illustrations in the background here are some of my favorite things about Austin! I also love the shot that Katherine made for our last meetup.

St.E by Lauren Dickens, above right.

I love Lauren’s work and love seeing updates of St. Elmo Market because it is going to be a huge addition to my neighborhood.

Can’t meet Sophie in person on November 5? Find her online at Dribbble.

Enjoy reading about the Austin design scene? Check out New Orleans and Paris, then go meet designers from your own great city at the next meetup.
