Early next month, the El Passion team is throwing Warsaw’s inaugural Dribbble meetup! More than 100 designers are already signed on for Shot Talks, presentations, an Analog Playoff, Ping-pong, plus the usual swill, swag and swell conversation. RSVP now.
In advance of the meetup, UI/UX designer Michał Ptaszyński gave us the Warsaw 411.
Tell us what you love about Warsaw
So many things! Warsaw’s Old Town is really one of a kind. The buildings are really beautiful, although they’re fairly new beacuese the whole city had to be rebuilt aftwe the Second World War. People did an amazing job and you can still breathe the history dating back to the 13th century there and get inspired. Places along the riverbank are great for chilling out with friends and simply enjoying the weather when it’s warm enough. And Łazienki Park is breathtaking too.
Warsaw is also Poland’s business center and most of the biggest companies have their offices here. It makes the city great careerwise, designers included.
Tell us where El Passion is.
EL Passion’s office has a great location. It’s just two subway stations from the Central station, so it’s very easy to get here. There are a lot of places where you can go for lunch close by. And there’s also a shopping centre about five-minutes walk from the office, so if there’s anything you need to buy after work it’s very convienient. All that said, we might be moving to an even better location soon.
Tell us about the Warsaw design scene.
Warsaw is a great place to meet people from the creative industry because it has the largest number of advertising agencies and software houses. This makes the industry competitive and it pushes everyone to their best. I think that we have some top-level designers here. Warsaw is also home to the biggest design event in Poland — UX Poland.
Most of the Polish start-ups are also based in Warsaw, e.g. Positionly, DocPlanner and GoldenLine. The Dribbble Meetup which we’re organizing at EL Passion for the 8th of October will also be an attempt for people to meet, get to know each other and integrate.
Choose three shots from three Warsaw-based designers, and tell us why you chose them.
Promotional posters by Mateusz Witczak, above left
I’m a big fan of typography and really appreciate people who use pencils and can draw beautiful letters. Mateusz shows us artistry in the design of letters and he has an almost pedantic attention to detail.
tech4fit app by Michał Gałubiński, above center
Michał is one of the most famous Polish interface designers. He has a very distinctive style and he was undoubtedly one of the forerunners of pure style, based on typography and large photographs, in UI design in Poland.
SchedulApp - Tour (landing page) by Konrad Księżopolski, above right
Konrad and I work together, so I know his style very well and really appreciete it. His designs are always very clean, delicate and modern. Working with him is a pleasue and we inspire each other day after day.
If you can’t meet Michał in person on October 8, you can find him at Dribbble. You can find El Passion at elpassion.com and on Twitter.
