Purple emperor
The male purple emperor is an unmistakable, striking butterfly with a wingspan of about 80mm. One of the most beautiful of all the butterflies found in the British Isles. Numbers are declining steadily and it is now restricted to a few larger deciduous woodlands of southern England.
