In celebration of launching my latest project PSDs.co, a place for designers to download Photoshop files I’ve created, I wanted to test for myself how hard it would be for Yahoo! to do something drastically different — something unique, memorable, simple, but not Google simple. Not even a handful of hours later I was able to create these two designs of what I would have liked for Yahoo! to reveal.

love the search bar styling and the bars on the left, great work!
Love it! Would like to see yahoo using such design in future. Although, I think purple search result color would be missleading as it usually means visited link.
Love this design Dann. I would definitely spend more time on Yahoo with it looking like this and focused more on news and entertainment. Great work!
They should hire more people like you. Great job!
Very interesting. Easier to read and focus on content. I was only not sure about the space for advertising, almost felt like you missed it so much. So i checked current website and whoa, they have only one banner on homepage :)
I feel there are too many committees which creatives have to contend with. I cannot see in our current culture how design like yahoo doesn't break more ground. however sites like myspace which are creatively stunning fail to miss the mark with user engagement and offering I'm conflicted. Great concept though.
What about the user experience? Does it work? If I want to explore the news for yesterday, or any other day, it will send me to another page with a different design and different experience — which, in my opinion, it's not that good.
Flat! looking sick perfect colors, teahupoo hell yea.
Really good, but some blurred borders of the violet shapes on the left are killing me ;)
love the search page
Awesome work as usual but i m so tired of seing that Kanye West face on all dribbble visual.. it's a call to action picture..
Nice man! It looks quite bit like New MySpace and W8 together. But looks awesome! Congrats bro!
great work, its very nice :)
While I do enjoy the search results page, it does feel like a lot of wasted screen real estate... interesting, feels very "windows 8."
Looking great and it's way different!!
so fucking good.
I feel like this should be titled "I couldn't sleep"
very interesting concept, unique approach.
but isn't yahoo's target audience, like, my mom? this might blow minds a little too hard.
Don't think Dann would want to work for Yahoo! since they are implementing a strict no working from home policy. Bad idea yahoo.. just penalize the perpetrators.
Nice PSDs Dann!
While I see the design fire in you, from marketing standpoint I cannot imagine that any news portal would ever do a change anywhere close to this. Not because this is a bad design (it isn't, the design is quite nice), but because a site like this would bring no value/profit to Yahoo - I assume you have never seen an ad campain on Yahoo (I do remember a mind blowing Volvo ad) - and I'm not talking about the banner on right-hand side.
People that use Yahoo on daily basis (such as myself) know what Yahoo is about - creating your own experience as you use it. Just an example - I want to read about sports first, but you decided that weather is more important than news categories, which is wrong.
Again, looks nice, but with too many drawbacks.
My first tought was a gun pointing at Kayne :)
ya Dann this is great design - they should pair you up with some UX people over at Yahoo! and execute something.
