Music Player

I was't really happy with iOS 6's player visual design, so I started fooling around with those visuals, adding just a couple of details I'd like to have. Check out the full version.

This was the very first iteration. Kinda quick and dirty. Playing with it, I realized there was a lot of room for improvement and exploring, so I grabbed pen and paper and started again, trying to get rid of the typical music player for iOS paradigm. I'll post some more stuff about this little guy when I'm happy enough with it :)

Nice, but it looks like a normal music player :-)

@Néstor Palao innovation isn't everything. Improving something which is already good is better than "innovate" just for the sake of it. I think that "normal" music player came out after lots of thinking and iterations I'm not gonna beat in a two-hour exercise. Consider this just a visual makeup. It's a start point.

Regardless of the innovation, I think you're right in some way. This thing didn't scale well enough with time, and new features and controls are added without thinking enough IMHO. That's what I'm trying to do now. I'm not sure if I'll get something better than the current one, but I'm having lots of fun with it :)

Looks good! The only thing is that I don't see clearly that the bottom bar is the volume bar. The icon is too small :( Even looking at the full version, at the first time I though that was a progress bar.

@Sergio Ruiz Yeah, I know what you mean, but well… time is a cue for the progress bar. In the current there's no way to know which one is the volume bar, because there's no icon at all indicating it. This might not be ideal, but I think it's an improvement (kinda).

On the other hand, there's something weird about the current controls positioning. IMO, the progress bar should be on bottom, as the playback controls are on bottom (and there went the 2nd iteration). Probably that's one of the main reasons why you immediately found it weird.

Will keep working on this. Thanks for your comment! :)

  6. After several of hours of sketching, thinking, and finally painting, I can finally show this up, still WIP.

When the iPhone 5 came up, the audio player was broken. Every pixel was perfectly tailored for it, and trying to make it fit on the 5 was… well, complicated. On other side, several new features came along on services like Spotify or Rdio, making our music players more social and fun. Something isn't quite right, so I tried my best.

I tried to do something different not for the sake of being different, but to try to fix this half broken stuff. Regular controls are a bit dated, so I tried something using the covers in a different way, providing visual cues to interact with them. I'm sure you'll have questions or things you don't like. Just shoot :)

Highly recommended to view it on an actual device. I hope you like it!
