Here's a fun little animation coming in the next release of Notable. The settings gear icon will spin when the settings modal is coming up, then spin the opposite direction when it is dismissing :)

Inspired by the settings icon in Espresso.

How long does it take for the settings modal to show up? You shouldn't need a spinning icon to distract.

@Hugo Kessler It takes the standard amount of time, the animation is not to distract but just to add some fun :)

@David Keegan But can it be really seen? It seems like it would not be seen if the settings window comes in quickly.

@Hugo Kessler There is enough time to see it, if you're looking. It's just ment to be a fun little easter egg.

@David Keegan Love the story behind Notable! So much so, in fact, that it's inspired me to build a tailor-made app for my wife :]

@David Keegan Out of curiosity, how did you go about implementing this?

@Mic Pringle It's a hack :) The button is blank then I put a UIImageView ontop of it in the nav bar. So I had to add code to fade the image view out when the detail view is pushed in and have to reposition the button when the iPhone rotates. But visually it looks fine :) I tried some other solutions to access the view of the UIToolBarItem but that didn't seem to work.
