Type and Lettering

After making do with a number of temporary solutions for lugging around my drawing materials, it dawned on me that designing my own pencil case would be much cooler — and a lot more fun.

Before tightening up the lettering with pencil on tracing paper, I did a bunch of studies with felt-tipped brush markers (my set of Faber-Castell Pitt Artist Pens especially got a workout) and Winsor & Newton Series 7 brushes. The layout was dictated by the proportions of my carrying case design, so I settled on a simple composition. Finally, I vectorized the mark in Adobe Illustrator, and the artwork was off to the printer.
