Purple shade indicates something new has arrived in that section.

Last 3 icons stand for various actions you can take -

1. mention me in a tweet - pen
2. message me - paper plane
3. take action on my profile - gear

In 3. actions on my profile could be show in a popup - block, unblock, add or remove from lists
