So this is something I started out making this summer. I wanted to make something really content intense and something native for the Mac OS, so I chose Facebook :) There are still things wrong with the design, but since I have no time for Photoshop (due to school -.-) I thought I'd post the first iteration of the design now.

    Inspiration:
    1. @Victor Erixon Email client for OS X
    2. Facebook.com. Mostly the mobile app, but also the web version.

Feel free to check out the full version here! :)

PS. The ambient background was NOT made by me, it was made by @Yanlu and you can get it here :) Thanks!

Looks great. Too bad that i started on a Facebook project 2 days ago too with nearly the same design idea. So well done. I'll have to do something else now ;)

Arvid Bräne, I am working on NewGenBook for desktop, iOS & Mac.. I would love to use this design in our apps and make it reality.. Would you consider giving me permission to do so?

also find me on twitter if you want to talk more @jeayese

@Arvid Bräne Nice idea and your work looks pretty good but I think you forget many cases.

For exemple, in your favorite list, you have only 6 objects. In reality, users can have much more. Personally I've got around 40 favorites and I'me sure, there are lot people will have more than 10.
Second, I don't think highlight on user profile is really interesting ?
(Personnal thinking) Who care when was last time you login or friends online ?

About footer's post, I don't think your user experience is the best.
Facebook and compagnies working with it try to engage users with Page ( or Apps, Friend, etc)'s posts. Here, the first thing I see after content post is how many engagement this post have and it's only after that I see the engage button. So your change isn't good for anyone, you should keep original ux : http://cl.ly/image/0O372h3V3L3Y

In the new newsfeed, user can choice what newsfeed he want see (News Feed, Most Recent, All Friends, Following, ...) but not on your screen. c.f capture : http://cl.ly/image/1k2t1j0T0F2o

And last critique, I swear!, if it's for an original facebook app, so you need to include ads because it's their first case how they make money ;)
