So, this month I'm embracing all the character and uniqueness of the hand lettering of those before us.
It's time to let go of pristine auto-kerning. Let go of equal width/height letter forms and appreciate that not a single letter needs to be the same. Years of digital make you forget. I was born with pencils, markers, nibs, and brushes. Somewhere in there I got lost in all the pixels and bezier handles.
This month I get back to my roots.
Inspiration for this came from a hard-bound book cover I saw somewhere at an antique shop or mall. I came across the photo on my hard drive. Larger detail image is attached.
