Another part of my menu exploration for small screen devices like fitness trackers, touch bars, wearables, coffee machines, etc, where there is no enough place to show all items at once.
Also, I think it's possible to use the concept for web or mobile interfaces with a couple of restrictions: there are not a lot of items and the sequence of the items is predictable (look at my stepper exploration with similar mechanics). Otherwise, it's better to show a list or a scrolled dropdown.
The arrow works as a hint to help a user to get what's going to happen.
