Roberts Family Reunion 2019

Of my Grandfather's many passions, the one that stood out the most was his enthusiasm for scaring the shit out of his grandchildren. His primary method of this was using a cast of monsters of entirely his invention and staging nighttime walks where he'd stage these appearances that were very convincing to my childhood self.

T.T. Pierre, the man hiding underneath a bush with the glowing face... or was just a flashlight illuminated face? Gorp, his little green slimy friend who rode on Pierre's shoulder... or was that just a clump of cooked spinach? The Flying Enamel rocketing across the night sky... or was that just a plane? The Wolfen with its glowing red eyes... or was that.....actually, I still can't figure this one out. Last but not least, The Rhiney. A 8 ft tall cloaked figure with horned and bleached bone head that was definitely NOT just a cow skull nailed to a tree.

This design will be serving as the official shirt of this year's family reunion in Colorado and it serves as the first time I've put these creatures into the form of illustrated characters and in a visual venue as if they were part of a cult dedicated to spooking kids. Maynard's Monster Cult serves to remind the family of a departed Grandfather's creativity and his legacy of this sense of weird imagination that has stuck with me as a creative, still to this day.

RIP
