My first icon—Goodbye Cydia
End of an era.
The platform @saurik created with Cydia (not to mention @phillryu's MacThemes community) were what led me to go from being a lurker customizing my iPod Touch, to drawing my first icon in 2009 using GIMP.
Late to the game, the good times had already passed by the time I started making icons. The art was already on a trajectory towards its demise, though it wasn't immediately apparent. I just thought these pixel magicians were doing the impossible and wanted to be a part of it.
I drew this icon (my first ever mod) as a replacement for Beejive IM for the Teneo icon set by Mahmoud El Zeiny (Salehhh). I made it by dragging cutting and pasting pill shapes from other icons, color adjusting them, and putting text on them. Since then I've figured out how to use vector tools, and can now draw icons on my own, among other things.
