Roaming Free

It’s 2019 (the supposed “future”) and there are still tons of horses out there that are neglected, malnourished and forced to take part in hard labor by pulling heavy carts. In Eastern Europe these horses are oftentimes garnished with pompoms, fringes and strings of red yarn which is ironically enough a symbol of good health and luck.

Naturally, I wanted to depict these poor animals finally breaking free.

This was super fun to work on! The lineart was done in ink using a brush on 300gsm watercolour paper, the (ever so subtle) shading was done in chalk, frontal floral details were done in charcoal and the red pompoms and strings were done in coloured pencil.
