UI Sans Layer Effects

On a current project, one of the main design goals I've been striving for is to keep layer effects to a minimum--or better yet not even use them at all. The style is intended to be clean, minimalistic, and use as few images as possible. So I'm also trying to keep everything flat by avoiding gradients that give too much sense of depth.
