Mobile App Design

THE OPPORTUNITY
Anybody staying in Lagos will explain how difficult it is moving around the city, especially with the traffic situation and how hard it is to actually manoeuvre the many one-way streets or getting a parking space. Now for the average working class citizen, this gets even more difficult because of the hassles that come using public transportation in Lagos. A problem that is being addressed by Shuttlers.

THE SOLUTION
Shuttlers is a ride-sharing platform that offers a service similar to Uber but operates as a modern version of the current Lagos BRT bus service hence one app which is used by the user to book seats on shuttles, reserve routes, make payments, etc and another app for the driver to use when checking in passengers, receiving payments, starting trips, etc.

On this project, I was tasked with working with the engineering team to design the experience, interface and visuals for both the user and driver app. To begin, I did some competitive analysis by looking at a couple of the competitors in this field and their business models relative to their user experience, user interface and visuals design, not excluding their user flows and interactions knowing how important it is to convert first-time visitors to users on a new product such as this.

Next, I worked out some scenarios where people might want to use the Shuttlers service and also identified 4 personas so as to not stray off track during the process of designing. These personas helped me put together enough data to have some use cases like how does one book a seat on a shuttle, make payment or even can one hire a shuttle privately. All of these processes helped shape the user experience.

THE RESULT
Countless man-hours, a couple MVPs, several iterations and feedbacks later, the first version was ready to be launched. The app was designed with efficiency in mind using an obvious design approach which allows one to complete actions in a manner that seems so natural because it takes advantage of already existing technology and interactive flows so users can complete actions with fewer touchpoints such as booking a seat on a shuttle with less than 3 clicks.

The driver’s app was designed with a more optimized interactive flow so the driver can easily check in passengers at bus stops and use the map for navigation in a manner that is not distracting without compromising the visual aesthetics. You can check out both apps on playstore.
