First in my #DrawnToToronto series: Allan Gardens Conservatory. This is a botanical gem in a concrete city. Paying a visit here will make you feel like you’re visiting a tropical destination. It’s a welcome break from the long Canadian winters.

I love this spot for sketching and wandering around. You’ll see many people shooting photos amongst the lush, colourful plant collection. The large centre dome is the Palm House where palm trees reach for the sky. The turtle pond is a delight for kids and adults - the turtles seem to enjoy all the attention they get as well - in their own reptilian way. The air is so humid and clean it’s great for the lungs too! -
The land is one of the oldest parks in Toronto and dates back to 1858 when prominent local politician George Allan offered the Toronto Horticultural Society a five-acre parcel of land to develop a garden. The conservatory building dates back to 1910 when it was built to replace an earlier one that was destroyed in a fire.
