Madras Central Railway Station

Railway termini are our gates to the glorious and the unknown. Through them we pass out into adventure and sunshine, to them, alas! we return.
~ E.M. Forester

Madras Central was built in 1873 at Park Town as a second terminus to de-congest the Royapuram harbour station, which was being utilised for port movements. The century-old building of the railway station, which recently undergone a face-lift, is one of the most prominent landmarks of Chennai, was designed by architect George Harding.
