Created for a hack project where I wanted to create some output that went beyond the screen.

Some of my best memories are of clearing the bar: leaping into the air, floating back-first, falling gently into the landing mat, and that feeling of accomplishment as you see the bar still standing. High jump is a feat of grace and skill where simple changes to approach, jump, and clearing method can add inches to your performance.

This image is inspired by my love for collage, the evolution of high jump techniques, and the great Dada artist Kurt Schwitters. Dick Fosbury is often credited with the innovation called the “Fosbury Flop,” but a Canadian jumper named Debbie Brill discovered the technique on her own and performed the “Brill Bend,” just 4 months after giving birth, to set the world record for women’s high jump.
