Mashrabiyahs

Mashrabiyahs مشربية‎ are intricately carved latticed bay windows. These elaborately carved structures, some five storeys high, are often painted in green, grey, blue or brown hues. The literal translation of mashrabiyah is “the place of drinking” since it was common to find clay water jugs placed in these structures.
