10/52: Okja

10/52: Okja (2017) - ★★★.

Review: “What an odd wee film. Good, but odd. The believability of Okja as a semi-pig hippo-beast was so impressive for being rendered in cgi. This was one of those films that thinks of all the proper ways to use cgi for cinematic good. Was so impressive. Also a stellar performance from Seo-Hyeon Ahn. A slightly disappointing performance from both Swinton, Gyllenhaal and Dano, as their characters all lost their novelty halfway through. Bain Hee-Bong as the grandfather was also so good. Very genuine interactions with his on-screen g-daughter.

The scenes towards the end were very sobering and hard to take, although I kind of wish there was more weepiness and teary moments, but the film seemed all over the place in what it was trying to say. However, still an entertaining watch.”
