As part of the Pinterest profile redesign, I redesigned what a board cell looks like. As a matter of fact, this was the very first piece we tackled, with iterations going back to October or November.
None of us liked the original cells, called 3x3s, since it was too small to see anything in the thumbnail, and they didn't align with the new visual direction of the site. I decided that we should try to make them more visual and instantly engaging. (There's also some stuff we're holding back, of course :P)
Another huge consideration was the pattern and texture that boards created when aligned in a grid. This still isn't optimal yet on the site, but we'll continue to tweak it until it's perfect.
