Wax Portrait 02

Wax Portraits // 2017

These portraits were made by sculpting the basic head shape with aluminum foil. After the heads were shaped, plaster was then applied to each head individually to create unique textures and faux bone placement. The heads were then fixed to a platform while wax was dripped over it continuously to build depth and shape. Each portrait was then photographed and pulled into Photoshop to extract, color correct and retouch.

During the process I found myself having so much fun doing the dodging/burning portion of the workflow. I got lost within the gradients and smooth blending. It was a familiar feeling much like shading with charcoal and your fingers.
