I imagine in Jesus’ last days he probably smiled
a heavy, nostalgic, in-the-moment smile. He probably laughed with his friends but, in the back of his mind, he knew a dark episode was ahead. It was lovely but it was heavy like the shadows in this image. Even in the days following the resurrection, while the Holy Spirit was being poured out on people, this lovely thing was given to fight a heavy battle.
This is a bride’s bouquet; the bride His church. It is lovely but, in this life, she still has trouble and shadows. But she takes heart, for her bridegroom has overcome the world.
