Balance Exploration

Just started this project up. High-level art direction approved, but plenty to sort out still — comments welcome!

Client runs a trendy custom CNC shop and is looking for a fun, engaging new marketing site.

Currently using these two nav card elements as a super-loose all-in-one global exploration of balance between type, colour, and the still unwieldy shape n' pattern bucket — and also what a hover state for such an element could look like... For instance, if the top-left white version serves as the default state, do we go with the subtle blue underline, or a (more fun...) all-in colour swap as seen in the bottom-right?

We're still early, but any suggestions? How does the balance feel? Thanks, folks!
