Godzilla vs the Bomb Illustrated Screen Print

This print is for anyone who, like me, is a huge fan of Godzilla, kaiju, or Japanese-style block prints. I grew up watching Godzilla movies and became absorbed by both the larger-than-life destruction in Godzilla movies, but as I got older, learning about the cultural impetus for Godzilla was fascinating.

This design is my attempt at paying homage to the King of the Monsters by pitting him against the atrocities of nuclear war—the cultural anxiety of Japan that led to the character's backstory and creation. This design was created for an art show at Toy De Jour in Chicago, Illinois. It's a two color, hand-pulled screen print featuring intricate line work.
