#4 - Schmidt's of Philadelphia

Established in 1860, Schmidt's beer has a longstanding history in Philly and was known for being nothing fancy, more of a light lager of the time. Sold on draft in taverns and in ball parks, you could snag a pint at Veterans Stadium in Philadelphia and at Yankee Stadium in New York.

It had many owners in it's 127 year run, the last of which was named William H. Pflaumer. He purchased the factory in 1976, and began ramping up production making it the ninth-largest brewery in the United States. Sadly this was followed by a steep decline and then closure of Schmidt's in 1987, which was the first time in 300 years that no beer was made in Philadelphia. Now due to reuse the building has been turned into condos but the history of Schmidt's lives on!
