Bond (Full Site)

Single-page site for Bond, BackerKit’s conference.

For the final site for Bond, Andy reached out to illustrator Lisa Tegtmeier, and right from the start we knew her work would take center stage on the site. We loved Lisa’s work for its big and bold faceless characters that flood the canvas with their large scale, vibrant colors, and flowing curves. We asked her to bring that to the website, commanding a design that could flow between full-width sections more smoothly and naturally than the usual stack of panels divided by straight lines or backgrounds.

We also brought in Matt Lehman to help us out with identity. We quickly fell heads over heels for one of Matt’s typeface picks, Chap, a delightfully quirky modulated sans from Schick Toikka that defies straightforward description. (Seriously, go look at it, note that claw-like C and f, the unconventional a and e, the chunky shoulder of the r, it’s just so unique). Matt and Lisa also collaborated on a strong color pallete that would serve both Lisa’s illustration and Bond’s wider identity.

The final step (and my role) was to bring everything together on the website, working together with Lisa to plan how content could exist with the illustration’s leading role, and working on top of Matt’s identity foundation to set type and lay out content.
