San Diego Wildcats

Team 13/32 of #TheUFLProject – the San Diego Wildcats.

The San Diego Wildcats franchise was developed as a tribute to the San Diego Zoo and its reputation as a beloved tourist attraction. The facility, well renowned expertise in wildlife and animal care, stretches across 100 acres and is home to over 3,500 endangered animals and 700,000 exotic plants. The nickname “Wildcats” is stemmed from numerous exhibits and conservation efforts by the zoo to keep the wild cat population thriving.

The “Eurasian Lynx” wildcat species is depicted in the team’s primary logo. They are the largest and most common of the lynx species that occupies 46 different countries including Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. The Eurasian Lynx is extremely versatile – its long legs help when walking in deep snow and swimming across rivers, and the fur on the soles of its large paws help for added traction. This wildcat is an often nocturnal hunter, as it preys on rabbits, foxes, deer, and sometimes larger animals during the night.

The Wildcats feature a vibrant cyan blue paired with a deep sea navy. The subtle striping on the uniforms mimics the unique patterns seen on wildcats’ fur. The design element is a heat-pressed gloss featured on the shoulders, pants, and helmet. The number font is modified with wisps and angles to articulate the elements present in the wildcat profile, most notably their unique ears.
