Alt Vertical Debit Mastercard
The first (horizontal) card is our current alpha card being used in our internal testing phase. The artwork follows the traditional layout rules but we were able to negotiate the PAN number, expiry date and customer name to be printed on the back instead of embossed across the front. This really cleaned up the design and got us thinking how far we could push the envelope.
Our preference for a portrait oriented layout started to emerge. We felt it is a more natural form, given most of our purchases are contactless (Paywave, Paypass) and inserting into ATM's/merchant machines are also done this way.
After working closely with our manufacturer and Mastercard, we're excited that we'll be able to ship a portrait card early next year.
There will be a few challenges to work through (OCR scanning and Credit Card Imprinter machine support to name a few) but we're eager to explore the possibilities.
