One the most common phrases a Japanese beginner uses to learn is よろしくお願いします。Which can be used as 'Nice to meet you' but has many different meanings as well. But the key thing is that the phrase cannot be said about something that had already happened, but rather an expression about something that will happen in the future.

To understand this phrase better we can break it down and pick the Kanji from the middle — 願. This is the Kanji for 'Wish', so in this case it can mean something like 'One wishes to be treated well by somebody' when saying よろしくお願いします。

Breaking down the phrase is often helpfull with other phrases in any language you learn. Translating literally is bad for speaking but can be good to understand the meaning and grammar.
