The design of the latest Zhihu Web version is a challenging work, if you know the old web pages have not changed at all during the last 5 years. At the same time, there are increasing new functions and needs to join in, and the carrying capacity of old Zhihu Web is, thus, far less quickly and efficiently than ever. Therefore, this new version is designed to meet the urgent need for new ways to develop and better accommodate the old content, and ensure that the new version of the design will be able to keep up with the times as well. Before I came into contact with the Web design, I was designing mobile pages, and I thought mobile design would be much easier for me. But I was wrong, Zhihu Web pages design contains all the features I have known, and even some things I have never used before! The complexity of page design is far beyond my imagination. From the very beginning to the very end, I need to constantly focus my attention on the specific elements but still view the whole process holistically at the same time. This requires me to split all elements into several pieces, analyze its structure and content individually, and then re-integrate them all together. Besides its design complexity, I also need to consider expansion capacity, design targets, such as positive interaction rate, response rate and etc., and other contents as well.
In short, this is the most complex system I have ever designed. And much effort has been paid to improve our new Zhihu web. So if you are interested and want to find more about it, please visit www.zhihu.com.
Please feel free to contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org, if you have any further questions or suggestions for improvement.
I wish you like it.
PS: it's almost like a Chinese version of Quroa, if you haven't heard of it.
