Process!
Often after basic research I begin by listing out what information users need to see in order to make the decisions they need to make (seen on the right). This allows me to box off the interaction flow so as not to hit users with cognitive overload at any point, as well as keep the interaction flow focused on coherent narrative and relevant decisions. Love sketching on graph paper -- this allows rapid exploration and much easier "kill your darlings" work, allowing better ideas to surface.
