Don't you just hate clicking back and forth while browsing an eCommerce product list? I know I do. And so do people at Baymard Institute who conducted a large scale usability study of product lists & filtering.
For me (and perhaps for lots of other people) one of the key factors when choosing an apparel or footwear item is color. This shot based on Facebook emoji microinteraction shows a way to display item colors in product listings without taking up too much space and cramming up the product card. Most importantly, the user keeps the control over the item color displayed in the product thumbnail and it's just one click away.
