Doing branding for a church is extremely challenging given that the symbology, values and aspirations are shared in so many congregations - I believe this is why so many church identities feel similar to one another; everything being very vanilla and bland. Creating something unique and memorable under these conditions can be difficult.

In addition, so many churches today are clamoring to be, and feel, "modern" - they want to shake a lot of the "stuffy, religiosity" of the past in an effort to reach out to a modern world. And this mindset isn't necessarily a bad one, but building a brand for this purpose should always be tempered with its context. The town in which this church was built was founded in the early 1800's, and is a small town that is quite proud of its heritage and historic architecture. It would be a complete shame to create a brand that is overly progressive or modern, disregarding the rich heritage of the very people it is trying to reach.
