#034 - Car interface - Chatbot

"Design a car interface. Consider the elements you'd want and need in your own dashboard. Be creative, yet logical."

This prompt was probably meant to be taken as "design for the dashboard inside a car" but having designed for multiple vehicle owner apps for mobile, my mind went there instead.

Plenty of cars have apps that let control your car from an interface that mimics the in-dash system, or the key fab. I think it would be more interesting if you could chat with your car.

The average typing speed for mobile hovers around 1 word per second. After adapting to key words and phrases, this input method is actually faster than traditional tap and hold controls. An input string would also be a clean way of chaining together multiple actions like "start the car, unlock the doors, set the temperature to setting 1 and change the radio to NPR." To help users with the learning curve, a digital assistant with tappable commands could walk them through the process until comfortable, as well as type hinting and predictive text.
