Save Icon - Convention vs Evolution

Conventional icons are icons that use arbitrary shapes that are understood because of common convention. Convention icons might start out as resemblance or reference icons and only later become labeled as convention icons. The ‘save’ icon was depicted as a floppy disk, it could have been categorized under the resemblance category because users actually used to save files on floppy disks. However, later floppy disks became obsolete as they were replaced by hard drives and many other storage devices, which makes that icon seem arbitrary to the young generation who never interacted with a floppy disk. Here is an attempt to show how this icon may evolve. The down arrow (usually used to indicate download) inside the floppy disk shape would convey the concept of 'saving' more easily. So, it sticks to the convention and can slowly evolve.
