Tu Bshvat

Today we celebrate nature, more specifically: trees. Tu Bshvat is a time of rebirth, a new year for fruit, renewal, and general growth.

“Tu” stands for the number fifteen, as in the 15th of the Hebrew month of Shvat. It also sounds like “two.” Monolinguals, let me explain: this is a terrible pun with the number 2, a pun that my uncle would be very proud of, no doubt. Happy Tu Bshvat, uncle! I hope you’re proud.
