Upstate NY Flag

After watching the Roman Mars video on vexillology, I decided that the area where I live and work in needed a symbol to rally around. Something to unify the sprawl that is Upstate New York.

The blue section represents the major rivers in New York state: Hudson and Mohawk. The green represents the landscape that sets the upstate region apart from New York City. The design is a nod to often used four quadrant flags of Scandinavian countries.

1. Keep it simple. Check.
2. Use meaningful symbolism. Check.
3. Use 2–3 basic colors. Check.
4. No lettering or seals. Check.
5. Be distinct or be related. Check.
