Years ago, elevators were controlled manually by elevator operators. Their job was to take people from point A to point B safely. Which is a lot to trust someone with when falling from point B could mean severe injury.
The icons you make are asking for the same level of commitment from the people using them. Their job is to take someone from point A to point B without causing confusion. They help the user navigate and establish trust with that app, website, or brand.
