Marble Termite

A part of my "Exotic Pompeii Collection" a series of made up insect illustrations.

Marble termite
Isoptera Edenda
Rarity: Uncommon

Also known as column termites; these small gray termites eat marble instead of wood. Their strong mandibles secret a slow burning acid that can melt away entire marbles structures over time, with enough numbers. Many Pompeii monuments and structures were assumed to have been lost in history to these destructive insects.
