Inking Pencils by Ed McGuinness - Amazing X-Men #1 - Pages 17-18

Enter your text here...Hello, I am R.L. Black, comic artist and writer. In my preparation for the Baltimore Comic-Con next week (2023), I am putting my portfolio together. I intend to include inking samples along with my original artwork as I am willing to work as an inker on any job. I actually haven't spent a lot of time inking other people's artwork but I am very comfortable with it. I look at inking as an opportunity to try and incorporate my own flare into the final look and hopefully bring the original artist's pencils to life.

In this case, I am working on pencils by Ed McGuinness for Amazing X-Men #1 which was published back in 2013. The original inker was Dexter Vines, who I think did a great job. I started with McGuinness because I like his bold style and the "spikey" shading that is a hallmark of his layouts. I do a lot of the "spikey" shading myself so I thought it was a good fit. He's also an amazing draftsman with few if any wasted lines. Very economical in his layouts. Love it.

My inking is done entirely in Clip Studio Paint with a handful of brushes.
