Chippewas

Central Michigan University changed our athletics logo to the current “fast C” (http://www.cmuchippewas.com/) while I was there in the mid-90s. It marked the final step in removing all Native iconography from our identity, while inexplicably keeping the name “Chippewas.”

I thought it would grow on me over time, but it never has. Beyond it’s perplexing speed lines and giant, superfluous underline, it feels like a wasted opportunity to pay homage to the proud tradition of our namesake in a respectful manner. If the alma mater can’t do something like this, we should just change the name.
